Growing Number of Stray Pets at Local Shelter
The Animal Protective Association of Missouri is urging pet owners who have recently lost a pet to contact the APA immediately.
With the recent restructuring of several animal organizations in the community, many agencies are no longer taking in stray pets or are limited in the number they can accept.
As a result, more strays are being dropped off at the APA than in years past. Though our open-admission shelter is located in St. Louis County, city and county pet owners who have lost their dog or cat may not think to contact the APA.
If you have lost your dog or cat, it is imperative that you contact every shelter in the St. Louis area, including the APA, whether you live in the city or county.
Pet owners can also search an online lost and found database at lost and found.
One last plea to pet owners: please have your pets microchipped. It is a simple procedure done in your veterinarian’s office and it’s the best way to get your pet back if he or she ever gets away.
