Position Title:  Director of Education and Public Relations

Accountable to:  Executive Director

Supervises:  Humane Education Coordinator

Job Summary: Directs APA outreach into the St. Louis metro area community by planning and executing public relations and marketing initiatives, developing partnerships with the media, other animal welfare organizations and social services agencies; coordinating Domestic Violence Pet Assistance Program to support victims of domestic violence and their pets; acting as an animal welfare advocate; offering support to APA clients.

Responsibilities:

1. Promote awareness of organization services and animal welfare through planning and implementing appropriate communication with local media, area organizations and local businesses.
2. Assist in the development, design and implementation of lesson plans, educational materials and programs.
3. Speak at community meetings, schools and workshops when necessary.
4. Manages and monitors all social media activities and updates organization’s blog.
5. Oversees printing and production of APA bi-annual newsletter, including obtaining quotes from printers and designers, writing articles and preparing the publication for mailing.
6. Writes monthly e-news mailings and selects images to be used. 
7. Submits copy and images for regular website updates.
8. Seeks out and is available for radio, television and print interviews about the APA and animal welfare issues.
9. Maintains a strong working relationship with animal welfare industry peers and partners with appropriate organizations and social service agencies on key initiatives to promote awareness and understanding of animal welfare issues.
10. Submits weekly and monthly featured pets for various print and online publications.
11.  Creates and updates marketing materials such as brochures, flyers and handouts while maintaining brand standards.
12. Responsible for the development, promotion and implementation of the Domestic Violence Pet Assistance Program.
13. Supervises activities and provides support to Humane Education Coordinator.
14. Works closely with Executive Director and Development and Marketing Committee to develop an annual plan of public relations and community outreach objectives and activities based on organizational goals and long term plans.
 
Qualifications:

1.  Bachelors Degree and/or extensive experience in public education.
2.  Must be an excellent public speaker to people of all ages.
3.  Must be knowledgeable and informed regarding current trends in humane education and animal welfare.
4.  Must be comfortable handling dogs and cats.
5.  Must have valid driver’s license and transportation.

 Salary:  Commensurate with experience.
