Adopt a Friend for Life!
Considering adoption? What a wonderful choice you’re making! Careful placement of pets into responsible homes is one of the APA’s primary and most rewarding missions. Every day, we receive strays and pets from owners who are no longer able to care for them and make every effort to give them a second chance at finding a permanent loving home.
The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $200.* This fee covers only a portion of our costs to treat and care for the animals. Because it can be harder to find homes for cats and we are committed to doing everything we can to give the animals a second chance, the adoption fee for cats and kittens is "Pick Your Price." We provide the following for each adopted pet:
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Microchip identification
- Preliminary vaccinations and worming
- Heartworm test and preventative for dogs
- Feline leukemia test for cats
- Advantage Multi® flea and tick preventative
- Two-week limited health guarantee
- Collar and leash
We ask everyone who adopts from us to consider adding a gift of $25 or more to the base fee to help us cover these costs.
We have discounted rates for senior citizens (60 & over) who adopt and special discounts when you adopt an older pet.
When you come into our shelter, you’ll find 100 to 150 dogs and cats waiting to find a new home. Our adoption counselors will help you find the right pet for you. We comply with all county and municipal regulations regarding pet ownership. We will not knowingly place a pet in violation of any ordinance restricting breeds or number of animals in a household.
For more information, please contact the APA's adoption desk at 314.645.4610 ext. 113. Click HERE if you’d like to meet some of our current residents online .
We update these listings hourly throughout the day. If you’d like to make sure a certain dog or cat is still here, you may call us with the animal’s name and its ID number. However, we do not confirm adoptions or “hold” pets by phone.
*Don't forget to ask about the $25 discount for senior citizens and military personnel as well as reduced fees for pets in the Lonely Hearts Club!
