Cat Quilts

The finished quilt will be 15” x 20”

Materials needed per quilt:

2 – 16” x 21” inch material for the top layer and bottom layer of the quilt

1 – 16” x 21“ inch batting material

Thread

Sewing machine

Kid-safe magic markers (optional)

  1. Layer the three layers of material with the top and bottom materials wrong side out.
  2. Machine stitch around the entire quilt about 5/8 “ from the edge EXCEPT for a 4 to 5 inch opening on one side.
  3. Turn the quilt right side out, fold the raw edges at the opening under and machine stitch the opening.
  4. Machine stitch across the quilt in two or three places (see diagrams below) to hold the batting in place when it is washed.
  5. Decorate with kid-safe markers if you would like.

Soft flannel-like material is the best fabric to use on this project. The top of the quilt does not need to match the bottom of the quilt, so take advantage of remnants at the fabric store.
